Tracking Your Community Engaged Scholarship
Faculty PRO is configured to help you track and record any activities that contribute to the body of community engaged scholarship at the University of Kansas.
Community engaged scholarship refers to research and scholarship that takes place in collaboration between students, faculty, or staff at the University of Kansas and the larger community (local, regional, national, or international) for the mutually beneficial exchange, creation, or enhancement of knowledge and resources. Community engaged scholarship may integrate teaching, research, and/or service. The product of the research or scholarship is mutually beneficial to the academic and non-academic communities and contributes to our body of knowledge, and is disseminated within an accepted academic peer-review process.
Use this checkbox to designate your activity as part of your community engaged scholarship.
The following activities that have this checkbox available are:
Activity Currently in Progress
Awards and Honors
Residencies, Compositions, Performances/Conducting
Artistic Works – Service
Presentations – Service (e.g., p-12, guest class lectures, outreach)
Publications – Service
You can also use the External or International Connections and Collaborations screen to track any community engagement you may perform.
For classes you've taught that include any service learning components, you can designate them as engaged scholarship by selecting the "Is this a Service Learning course?" checkbox on the Courses Taught records screen.
Flagging your community engaged scholarship in Faculty PRO will help your unit/department heads tally your department's contributions to community engagement during program and accreditation reviews. Additionally it will help identify areas of strengths and opportunities for community engagement University-wide. If you have any questions about using PRO to flag your activities as community engaged scholarship, please contact the Faculty PRO Office in the Center for Faculty Development and Mentoring.
