- Activity Currently in Progress
This screen is used to describe new or ongoing projects in the preliminary phase and is used to record research that has not yet been submitted or published. Dates are required if you want the information to appear in any reports you generate.
- Artistic Works, Residences, Compositions, Performances/Conducting
Individuals creating original works or artistic performances should record those activities here. Artist-in-Residence experiences go here as well. If the work results in a publication, record it separately under the Publications screen.
- Contracts, Grants, Fellowships, and Other Funded Activity
As of January 1, 2015, the PRO Team is loading externally funded grants/contracts proposals and awards on a monthly basis from the KU Center for Research. You will however need to review the information for accuracy and make any changes necessary. All grants must include dates. Enter only one record and total amount per multi-year award. Always flag your name as the Investigator, even if you are the only one. You can record fellowships and Fulbright grants here and in the Award and Honors, Honor Societies on the General Information section.
This screen is used across various disciplines to describe activity creating exhibitions or having work permanently displayed in collections.
- Field Research
This screen records activity carried out in the natural world to collect cultural or natural artifacts or specimens, or to conduct museum collections research. May not be available to all disciplines.
- Patents and Copyrights
For reasons of confidentiality, only approved or public patents are recorded in PRO. Copyrights are prevalent and should be listed only if of substantial importance.
Include conferences, symposiums, meetings, workshops, panels, posters, paper presentations, and in a few cases, readings of creative works. For more information, see the onscreen help.
Record publications that are the result of research, scholarly, or creative activity, but not service publications (those are entered under Publications - Service on the Other Service/Professional Development section).
This screen is interpreted broadly to include a variety of material available in print or online. Please include publication date with all published entries - some entries may not appear on reports if they don't include a date. For all records that you add or import, please indicate peer-reviewed/refereed work and Major or Minor designations. If you have questions as to what constitutes major or minor, please consult with your department chair. Check "My Record" next to your name in the author line as well since this is how PRO connects your authorship to your PRO records.
You can submit accepted manuscripts to PRO on this screen and the Office of Scholarly Communication and Copyright will deposit your manuscript in KU ScholarWorks if the publisher allows it.

You can record highlights of a critical review article published in the news about your artistic work/performance. Reviews of your publications or references to your work are recorded in the References to My Work/Interviews screen in the Other Teaching, Research/Scholarly/Creative, Service Activities section.
